Ken Nelson, Chief Executive of LEDCOM is the sole Northern Ireland recipient of the 2010 Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion.
The Award was introduced in 2004 to recognise individuals who have played an outstanding and significant role in promoting the growth of business enterprise entrepreneurial skills and attitudes in the UK. Each year up to ten standard Awards and a single Lifetime Achievement Award are made across the UK.
The 2010 Awards were announced last week and cited Ken Nelson for his role in the development of LEDCOM since he joined it in 1992 and the work it has done to support enterprise and business start up and growth. His role as Chairman of Enterprise Northern Ireland since 2006 as well as a number of voluntary roles were highlighted in the Queen's Award.
"I am honoured and humbled to have the Queen's Award for Enterprise promotion conferred on me by her Majesty. I also regard it as a tribute to the whole LEDCOM organisation - the dedicated voluntary directors and the excellent staff team I am proud to lead. In LEDCOM's 25th anniversary year, this national recognition is a great encouragement to us as we strive to support economic development and improve the quality of life for local people", said Ken Nelson.
Over 25 years, LEDCOM has actively assisted the start up of around 800 new enterprises including 80 social enterprises, as well as being involved in a wide range of economic development initiatives. |
